Did you know that Balderton has its own Olympic commemorative lectern on the village green, opposite Brisbane Court?

Recently, our hardworking Grounds Team noticed that the lectern was in need of some care and attention, so they set about restoring this important piece of Balderton's history. The structure was carefully removed, stripped back, repaired and repainted, giving it a fresh new lease of life.

Owned and maintained by Balderton Parish Council, the lectern commemorates the day the Olympic Torch passed through Balderton on 28th June 2012, a proud moment for our community. It contains information about the commemorative trees planted nearby to mark the occasion, with the five trees representing the five colours of the Olympic rings. It also features artwork created by pupils from Chuter Ede School and John Hunt Academy, and was fabricated by students from Newark College.

More than just an information board, the sealed lectern serves as a time capsule of Balderton's Olympic moment. Preserving memories, artwork and information about this special day, it helps ensure that this proud chapter of the village's history can be remembered and appreciated by future generations.

Next time you're passing along Bullpit Road, take a moment to stop and have a look at this lasting reminder of a memorable day in Balderton's history.
A big thank you to our Grounds Team for helping to preserve this unique piece of Balderton's heritage.
