16. Town Street

Information on the various watercourses in the village are supplied in Balderton in Times Past, pp. 19-20.


The “first” dyke (according to in Balderton in Times Past) that runs from Beacon Heights under the A1 skirting Fernwood and then resurfaces at Staple Lane to join the Middle Beck is known as Lowfield Drain.


The “fourth” dyke (according to in Balderton in Times Past) that runs from Beacon Heights, under Barnby Road and between Newark Academy and the Orchard School and then on past Balderton Lake to Flowserve is called Sodbridge Drain.


Further information on names of these drains or dykes would be gratefully received.
